News from the North South Network

The North-South Network is an informal network among the European National Scout and Guide Associations working in partnership with partners in the south. The aim of the network is to provide an open forum to all those Scouts and Guides who are interested and active in the field of co-operation, North-South partnership and development education. The recent meeting held at Stora Essingen and hosted by the Swedish Guide and Scout Council was attended on behalf of the Europe Region WAGGGS by Medeea Negutescu, member of the Europe Committee WAGGGS.
The North-South Network meeting was held simultaneously with to the Overtures Network meeting with ample opportunities for participants of both networks to meet and discuss.

During the course of the weekend of the North-South meeting there was active networking between participants as well as presentations on partnerships by Per-Ake Andersson, Project Manager, for the international Institute IOGT-NTO-RORELSEN (What is a good partnership? How have been development aid changed and what role does Guiding and Scouting play in creating a better world?) and Marzia Conte, European Commission (Youth in Action Programme) with Roger Johansson, Swedish National Agency of the Youth in Action Programme (objectives and the actions of the programme; the target groups; the programme countries; the cooperation with the neighbouring countries of the EU and with other partner countries of the world; training, exchange and networking in the youth field; the eligible activities etc.)
Participants took part in a role-play activity with good and bad examples on working in partnerships, finding solutions and funds for the continuation of projects and negotiations with their partner which was followed by plenary discussions.
The WSB and the European Region presented SCOPE a process designed to facilitate partnerships between Scouts with needs, and others who are ready to offer. The program includes all kinds of projects and can support partnerships at all levels.
Medeea presented the upcoming events in the Europe Region for 2008 and the new available materials. Medeea also distributed a feed-back questionnaire, aiming to find out how WAGGGS could better support the network.
