Stand up Against Poverty in the Europe Region
Traduction à suivre
2010 is an important milestone for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals when world leaders meet in New York to September to review the progress so far and identify what needs to be done to meet the targets to tackle and eradicate poverty world-wide.
In the run-up to the Summit, civil society organizations have come together to ask EU leaders to agree an ambitious plan to achieve the MDGs at the European Council meeting on June 18 - the last time EU leaders will meet together before the Millennium Review Summit in September.
Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world have been standing up against poverty as part of WAGGGS Global Action Theme. This is another opportunity to remind politicians of the commitments they have already made at this crucial time.
What Girl Guides and Girl Scouts can do?
If you live in an EU member state, you can take part in the Campaign by sending an e-card to your elected leader. All you need to do is visit www.unitedagainstpoverty.org and follow the instructions you find on the website.
Between 17-19 September, just before the Summit, there will be another opportunity to show your support for the MDGs and Make a Big Noise Against Poverty! During these days, millions of people will take part in an united action to stand up and make a noise to support the end of poverty and the acheivement of the MDGs. Start thinking now about the noise you can make in your group, unit or Association to show how Girl Guides and Girl Scouts are supporting these actions. And let the Europe Office know what you are planning by leaving a comment in the box below.
